On 1st November, 1966, the newly formed Indian State of Haryana was carved out of the Eastern portion of Punjab. The city of Chandigarh was selected to be the joint capital of the states of Punjab and Haryana and declared as a Union Territory. Chandigarh is one of the best planned cities on India. Chandigarh Police was reorganized on 1st November, 1966. The first chief of Chandigarh Police was Shri V. K. Kalia, SSP. The post of IGP was created in 1981 and 17 IGPs have been appoint till date. On 20.02.2017 Shri Tajender Singh Luthra, IPS, promoted as Director General of Police.

The Chandigarh Police is presently headed by an Inspector General of Police who is ably assisted by a Deputy Inspector General of Police. The Senior Superintendent of Police looks after crime and law & Order aspects of policing whereas Traffic & Security is looked after by the Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic & Security). The training, operations and crime against women and children are looked after by Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations & Training). The Indian Reserve Battalion of Chandigarh Police is looked after by the Commandant, IRB.

Eligibility Criteria for Chandigarh Police Sub Inspector:

Education Qualification:

Candidates should have a minimum degree of graduation or any other degree equivalent to graduation or any other higher rank from a recognized Institute or board.

Age Limit:

The candidates must have a lower age limit of 18 years and the upper age limit should not cross after 25 years. Also, the relaxation is granted but only as per the guidelines of the government to the reserved quota.

Pay Scale: Rs.15,000 to 39, 300/- along with the allowances.

Height: 5-7″

Chest: 33″ (with expansion of 1 1/2 inch)

Female

Chest: not applicable

Height: 5-2′
