Case study to construct an application XML

Web services have become an important part of distributed application development. As a result, various software vendors have released new tools that allow Web service development. For example, you looked at the tools that Microsoft and Sun Microsystems provide in previous projects.

In addition, software vendors have started adding support to their existing projects for creating and consuming Web services. Microsoft, as a pioneer in this field, has done the same by adding Web services support to Office XP and SQL Server 2000. This chapter shows you how to use the SQLXML 3.0 package to expose stored procedures on an SQL Server database as Web services. It also examines how Office XP allows its applications to easily consume Web services.

The chapter begins with the case study for which you will construct an application.
