What is XML DOM Node Tree?

The information that is maintained by the XML document in the hierarchical structure and this structure is known as Node Tree. This facilitates the developers to look for specific desired information by navigating around the tree and hence the nodes are allowed to access by the developers. Later the nodes content is updated.

The node tree structure starts with the root element and spreads to child elements till the lowest level.

A simple XML document is demonstrated where the node tree structure is displayed below:

XML DOM Model

  • The root is the top most node of the tree. Here <Company> is the root node containing two nodes of <Employee> as the child nodes to the root node.
  • The child node <Employee> has its own child nodes (<FirstName>, <LastName>, <ContactNo>
  • The two child nodes, <Employee> have attribute values Technical and Non-Technical, are referred as attribute nodes.
  • The text node is the text in every node.
