How to Use Writing Settings?

ere we will discuss about The Writing Settings of WordPress. It provides you immense opportunity to control and customize the writings for your site. It allows you to easily add and edit various posts, including changing contents in Post Types on different Pages. Furthermore it also helps you to control other optional functions such as Remote Publishing, Post via e-mail and Update Services etc.

Here are the required steps which you need to follow while accessing the writing settings −

Step (1) – For changing writing settings, you will have to go to ‘Settings’ menu and click on the ‘Writing’ option

Step (2) – Now look at the image below, this ‘Writing Setting’ page snapshot will have an appearance like this.

You will find the following fields are displayed on this page.

  • Formatting − This option has two sub options which provides you a wider choice and a better user experience as well.
    • The first option ‘Convert emoticons like :-) and :-P to graphics on display’ offers you more flexibility by turning the text-based emoticons into various graphic-based emoticons.
    • The second option ‘WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically’ provides fantastic support in correcting your posts and pages by removing the invalid XHTML.
  • Default Post Category – this field allows you to apply a particular category to a post, though you can also leave it as ‘Uncategorized’.
  • Default Post Format – With the help of this option you can imply the themes. You can customize post format to be applied to a particular post as per your choice. Moreover it also empowers you to create matching styles for various types of posts.
  • Post via e-mail − This field allows you to create and publish different posts on your blog or site by using your e-mail, making things one step easier and quicker for you. But to avail this facility, you are supposed to set up a separate and secret e-mail account with a POP3 access. Whatever mail is received at this email address will be automatically posted.
  • Mail Server – This field enables you to read the e-mails which are send to WordPress. Moreover it also stores the mails for future retrieval. This is the reason, you require POP3 compatible mail server with a URI address like mail.example.com, which you are supposed to enter here.
  • Login Name – This is a login Name of the email account which WordPress will treat as its own use while making a post. need its own e-mail account. Wordpress will keep it secret to avoid as spammers.
  • Password – Here you will have to set the password for the above mentioned e-mail address.
  • Default Mail Category – This field enables you to choose custom category for the posts which you will publish via the ‘Post by e-mail’ feature.
  • Update Services – This field comprises a list of possible services on the codex. Whenever a new post is published by you, WordPress automatically uses it to notifying the site about this, as part of its updating services.

Step (3) – Once you are done with the above mentioned process, to save the entire information just click on the ‘Save Changes’ button.
