Explain the playing environment of Table Tennis?

Table tennis is a popular game which is played by standing over a table. Usually the ball is hidden in the hands of umpire under the table to make the other player guess in which hand the ball was in. The winner chooses the side of the table to use he/she need to serve the ball. Usually, in singles, the first service is commenced by tossing a coin.

There is other method called serve to play, where the player needs to play the ball back and repeatedly three times and then plays out for score.

Design of the Table

Professional table tennis is played on a wooden table which is accepted by IITF. The table looks dark-colored with uniformity on all sides and has matt finishing. This is to prevent any blaze while playing. The table is partitioned exactly at the center by a net.

Non-professionals practice on solid tables which are made of steel that are segregated with concrete or any solid material.


Dimensions of the Table

The table is 1.525 m (5.0 feet) large and 2.74 m (9.0 feet) long. The design of the table provides an equal bounce of 23 centimeters (9.1 inch) when a grade ball is tapped on the table measuring from a height of 30 centimeters (11.8 inches). The whole table is made up of only with one equal material. The net that is used to separate the table which is of 15.25 cm (6.0 in) in height.
