Soft Systems Methodology - Six Sigma

SSM (see Chapter for details) is not commonly used in Six Sigma projects but is has been suggested as a useful addition. It is different from the other approaches described in that it does not seek to establish some ideal ‘true’ picture of the process, but recognises that different individuals will see the process in different ways. The ‘Rich Pictures’ generated in the early stages of SSM are designed to create options for discussion rather than to be definitive and unchallenged. This approach is particularly useful in messy complex situations and takes into account the human element of processes which can be absent in the more mechanistic approaches.
