What is a Customer Master Data in SAP FI?

All the business records and business transactions of SAP FI are posted and managed in accounts for which a master record of each account need to be created. This master record includes the data which controls the business transactions which are recorded by the system. The complete information about the customer with whom desired to do business is also included in the master record.

The accounts and the sales department use the Customer master data. The centralized maintenance of the customer master data helps in avoiding duplication of the information and consistency.

Example – For instance, if there is a change in address of one of the customers, so only have enter the change once in the system, and the accounting and sales departments will always have up-to-date information.

How to create a customer master data centrally in SAP FI?

Use the T-code FD01 or go to Accounting → Finance Accounting → Accounts Receivable → Master Records → Maintain Centrally → Create.

Create Customer Master Data

A new window appears wherein provide the following details:

  • Select an account group.
  • Depending on the type of number assignment (internal or external) used for the account group, provide an account number.
  • If you wish to maintain the company code data or the sales data as well as the general data, also enter −
  • A company code for maintaining the FI data (accounting data).
  • A sales area for maintaining sales data.
  • To continue, choose Continue.

Customer Create Master Data

Once Continue is selected, a new screen appears along with the customer data. Provide the customer data and save.

  • Enter the name of the customer.
  • Enter Search Term, for searching the customer Id.
  • Enter Street/House Number.
  • Enter Postal code/City.
  • Enter Country/Region.

Create Customer General Data

Click the Control Data tab and enter Corporate Group etc. if the customer belongs to a corporate group.

Create Customer General Data

Click the second option Company Code data and go to Account Management.

Create Company Code Data

Enter Recon. Account number from the list provided. Go to Payment Transactions, enter terms of payment, tolerance group, etc.

Payment Transaction

Once all the information is provided save the information by selecting the Save Icon.
