To define a logical printer device, from the initial Spool Administration screen select the option Output Devices.

Then click on the Create icon from the application toolbar. The system displays the Spool Administration: Create Output Device screen as shown in Figure. Proceed as usual, by filling in all required fields; then choose as device class Logical Output Device. This will change the screen layout by modifying the options in the Device Attributes tabstrip and removing others such as the Access Method tabstrip.The appearance of this screen. In the new field Map To, enter an existing device on your SAP system and save the new definition.

Defining a Device Pool

To define a device pool, select Output Devices from the Spool Administration initial screen. Then, click on the Create icon from the menu bar. The system displays the Spool Administration: Create Output Device screen. Fill in the required fields and select P as access method and select Device Pool as Device class. The system will change the tabstrips by displaying a new one known as Device Pool, which must contain at least one device.

On the new screen, you have to define the devices that will make up the pool, and also you must also select the pool function:

  • Send to a device pool. This is the option for balancing printing among devices.
  • Send to all devices in pool. This option can be used when you need to send the same print job to all devices at the same time.
