Power electronic switching device is a combination of active switchable power semiconductor drivers which are integrated into one. Major distinctiveness of the switch will be determined by the inner association of functions and interactions of its integrated system. Below figure displays how a power electronic switch system will work.
As shown in the above figure, external circuit will be held at a high potential relative to the control unit. Inductive transmitters will be used for supporting the necessary potential difference among the two interfaces.
Power switching devices will be chosen depending on the rating at which they handle power, i.e; the product of their current and voltage rating instead of their power dissipation rate. As a result, main striking feature in a power electronic switch is the capability of dissipating low or almost no power. Consequently, electronic switch can achieve a low and continuous surge of power.
