Summary on IPv6

An undisputed leader of the Internet since 1982 is IPv4. Because of the space exhaustion of IPv4, the control over the Internet is taken over by IPv6.

The world has celebrated ‘World IPv6 Day’ on June 08, 2011 with a purpose to test IPv6 address over Internet in full. IPv6 was officially launched on June 06, 2012 by the Internet community by enabling and offering to public. IPv6 was accepted and offered by all the device manufacturers and enabled as the default on the devices. Through which the Internet community was encouraged to migrate to IPv6.

Number of ways is provided to the organizations for migrating from IPv4 to IPv6. The organizations prior to migrating from IPv4 to IPv6 can run both IPv4 and IPv6 simultaneously. Different IP versions of the networks can be communicated and the data is tunnelled for shifting to other side.

What is the future of IPv6?

IPv4 enabled Internet is replaced by the IPv6 enabled Internet version 2. The Internet spear everywhere connecting and reaching every country of the world and thus increased the requirement of the IPv4 address space. This lead to the development of IPv6 by some of the countries.

IPv6 deployment is done outside US and Europe. The entire Internet space of India and China are moved forward to IPv6. A five year deployment plan has been announced by China, which is named as Chine Next Generation Internet.

After June 06, 2012 all major ISPs were shifted to IPv6 and rest of them are still moving.

Ample of address space is provided by IPv6 and the Internet services are expanded by IPv6. IPv6 delivers more than expected as it is rich with many features considering the drawbacks of IPv4.
