DL-I CALL FORMATS  - IBM Mainframe

The format for an IMS call via the command level interface is as follows:

DL-I CALL FORMATS

DL-I CALL FORMATS

DL-I CALL FORMATSFunction refers to one of the previously described DL/I calls. DB-PCB refers to the PCB for the database being accessed, as defined in the Linkage section of your program. IO-AREA refers to an area in working storage, which contains the space for the database segment, which IMS is to retrieve into or update from. SSA(s), as specified previously, specify the access path IMS is to take to retrieve or update the correct segment. Not every call needs every parameter. For example, SSAs are not required on a REPL or DLET call (since the access path has already been specified on the previous 'Get Hold' call). The format for an IMS call via the high-level interface is as follows:

DB-PCB refers to the PCB for the database being accessed, as defined in the Linkage section of your program. Segment Type refers to any segment type(s) you wish to access or specify as path of the access path. Expression refers to the means by which you communicate to IMS the specific segment(s) you wish to access or update. In general, the Expression format is identical to the call-level SSA format, with the exception that neither the segment name not command codes are specified in the expression (since they are specified elsewhere in the code). I-O Area refers to an area in working storage, which contains the space for the database segment, which IMS is to retrieve into or update from. Special Options include many of the call level command codes:

  • First (equivalent to command code F)
  • Last (equivalent to command code L)
  • Current (equivalent to command code V)
  • Keys (equivalent to command code C)
