“Real” Quotation Marks - HTML

Real quotation marks, used in publishing, cannot be typed on a standard keyboard. The quote marks available on the keyboard (“ and ’) are straight quotes; that is, they are small, superscripted, vertical lines. Quote marks used in publishing typically resemble the numbers 6 and 9—that is, dots with a serif leading off of them. For example, the following sentence is set off with real quote marks: “This sentence is a real quote.” The opening quote marks resemble the number 6, closing quote marks resemble the number 9. Table 9-5 lists the entities for real quotes.
