As you can see, the standard HTML document is a fairly complex beast. However, when taken piece by piece, the document becomes just like any other HTML document. The following HTML listing shows how all of these pieces fit together.
All HTML documents should have a <DOCTYPE> specification, <html> and <body> tags, and at least a <title> within the <head> section. The rest of the elements are strictly optional, but help define the documents’ purpose, style, and ultimately its usability, as you will see in the following chapters.
