Date Literals - Firebird

Date literals are “human-readable” strings, enclosed in single quotation marks, that Firebird server recognizes as date or date-and-time constants for EXTRACT and other expressions, INSERT and UPDATE operations, and in the WHERE clause of a SELECT statement.

Specifically, date literals are used when supplying date constants to

  • SELECT, UPDATE, and DELETE statements, in the search condition of a WHERE clause
  • INSERT and UPDATE statements, to enter date and time constants
  • The FROM argument of the EXTRACT( ) function
