Define cPanel

cPanel is defined as a Linux – based hosting management control panel. cPanel is used t host and manage the website and the backend working system of the server. For tasks we perform on the website like creating emails, uploading files, handling databases, cPanel provides graphical user interface.

What are the types of user levels for cPanel?

A server administrator installs the cPanel on the Linux system. Virtual Private Servers are created by an administrator, with the help of cPanel Software Server. It can also contribute the whole server for shared hosting. There are three types of user levels for cPanel shared hosting. They are Server Administrator, Reseller Accounts, and User Account.

Server Administrator

The core user of the cPanel Linux server who possesses all the consent over the server is Server Administrator. Creation, modification or deletion of any account from the cPanel server can only be done by Server Administrator. Only Server admin can access cPanel WHM (Web Host Manager). cPanel WHM is basically considered as the backend of cPanel.

Reseller Accounts

It is the server admin who creates the reseller accounts and selects the types of permission to be assigned to the reseller accounts according to the server admin choice. Reseller account can create and access the user accounts. The user accounts created by one reseller account are not accessible to other reseller accounts. They can access WHM with restricted authorizations.

User Accounts

These are the usual accounts provided to the users who subscribe for a web hosting. They cannot access Web Host Manager. Single or multiple websites can be hosted by user accounts, in accordance with their purchased plans from the web hosting provider.

cPanel has many features which are not provided by other web hosting panels. The graphical feature of cPanel, makes the non-technical users use conveniently. It is flexible as it adapts automatically to any screen size and can also be used in mobiles and tablets. The configuration of cPanel is made very simple. What are the disadvantages of cPanel?

No significant drawbacks exist. However, it is not left with few disadvantages.

  1. It being commercial software, we need to pay to get it.
  2. The using of cPanel is limited to only small and medium websites. Creating large website through cPanel is not preferred.
