Now for the part you’ve been waiting for: how to make sure you don’t lose all your beautiful brushes.

  1. Choose Save Brushes from the Brush palette menu or Brushes palette menu. Photoshop should automatically take you to your preset brushes folder.
  2. If you don’t save your library, you chance losing all your custom brushes.

  3. Enter a name for your brush library and click Save.

Now that you know the general way to save a library, save just the newly created dirt brushes as its own library. As you create more brushes, you may find yourself getting more particular about the brushes that are available in the palette.

Unused brush tips become a hassle that clutters up your workspace. You can manage this library or any other saved preset with the Preset Manager:

  1. Go to Edit > Preset Manager to bring up the dialog box.
  2. Make sure your preset type is set to Brushes,
  3. The highlighted brushes are the ones saved into their own library.

  4. Click one of your dirt brushes.
  5. Hold Command (Win: Ctrl) and click any other brush you wish to include in the library.
  6. Press the Save Set button and give your library a name in the ensuing dialog box.
