You navigate the file browser much like you do Windows Explorer(not to be confused with Internet Explorer, the web browser). To bring up the file browser, click the file browser button in the tool options bar. It is the button directly to the left of the palette well that looks like a folder with a magnifying glass.
When the file browser first comes up, you see these things in the left frame:a file tree on the top, a preview thumbnail in the middle, and the metadata and keywords in separate tabs on the bottom. File thumbnails are on the right. You know that I love exploded and dissection views, so here you go:below shows this very thing. To open an image from the file browser, simply double-click the thumbnail on the right. You can open multiple images by pressing Shift or Command (Win: Ctrl) and highlighting multiple files before double-clicking(any one of them).
You can click the file browser button in the tool options bar or go through Window > File Browser in the menu
