Factory Act 1948 pdf is a documented form which consists of rules, regulations, and sections which grant the employee eligibility to work, and their safety, health in docks & factories of India. Factories Act 1948 also help to formulate national policies that regulate the occupational safety of Indian labour and also deals with many problems that concern the well being and efficiency of the employees at the workplace. As per the 1948 Factories Act, a factory is defined as – any premises having more than ten workers working on any day of 12 months and the process of manufacturing is carried with or without the aid of power in any part. According to the Factories Act 1948, a child who has completed 15 years is declared as a person and eligible to work in factories under the supervision and it is a mandatory duty of medical surgeon or practitioner to examine and certify the health of all young workers in the factory. Under section 23, young workers are not compelled to work in dangerous machinery places.
Factories Act 1948 include different provisions for a factory employee such as sanction of Personal Protective Equipment, installation of canteens in factories, provisions of shelters like restrooms & lunch rooms for factories having more than 75 workers, drinking water facility, penalty enhancement for different violations, and permit of women in night shifts with proper safeguards including their safety and transport facilities.
Factories Act 1948 amendments 2016 were submitted to LokSabha by Shri Bandaru Dattatreya in August 2016 and the bill states the increment of overtime limit from 50 hours to 100 hours in a quarter under sec 64, empowerment of central government along with state government and exemption of rules in respect to a maximum number of overtime hours.
