Tier 2 students more employable than Tier 1 students: Study

According to the India's skill report 2016, students from Tier 2 cities were found to be more employable than their peers from Tier 1 cities. The report found that, more than half of the surveyed candidates were found employable in Tier 2 cities such as Lucknow, Patna, Dehradun, more than Tier 1 cities where the level of employability was 30%. The survey also found that employability of female students was up to 40% in 2015 in Tier 2 cities compared to last year. The other interesting fact is that in Tier 1 cities, the female employability was 36% in 2015 compared to 32% in the previous year.

Tier 2 students more employable than Tier 1 students

Engineering graduates had the highest percent of employability opportunities while BA, BCom, ITI, and polytechnics candidates had lowest percentage of opportunities to succeed in their career. Employees across the sectors expecting 14% increase in hiring as compared to previous year. Nearly 5.2 lakh students across 29 states and 7 union territories participated in this survey. Uttar Pradesh topped the list followed by Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Gujarat, Delhi, Karnataka and Bihar. Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu were topped the list of women employability. Andhra Pradesh also had the highest employability for men. Engineers are still getting hired the most followed by general graduates, who will see a drop in hiring as compared to last year. Maharashtra topped the list of states where hiring activity was the highest followed by Karnataka, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.

The surveyed employers were asked about the single most important thing they want in their prospective employees such as numerical and logical ability, domain expertise, communication, cultural fitment, integrity and values, result orientation, adaptability, interpersonal skill, learning agility. States such Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra and West Bengal had top performers in English and Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, Kerala, Gujarat, Karnataka, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh had top performers in logical and numeric ability.
