While 10 lakh engineers are coming out from universities as there is a need to create more jobs. IIT directors say that there is a need to provide quality education with good teachers, good labs and infrastructure is required to deliver quality engineers with sophisticated skills. As there is a need to focus on improving these infrastructure facilities as well as engage more with industry to produce quality engineers in tune with present day needs. Even IIT Directors felt that there was an overproduction of engineers, which needed to be addressed. Our job is to produce graduates who are broad based and who can be trained for a given job. Not to be so narrowly focused that they can only do one kind of job.We must strengthen our ITI and polytechnic diploma education by incorporating a significant hands-on training component,IIT directors mentioned in a statement.

Employability of Indian Engineering Graduates: Many of engineering graduates are doing unrelated jobs but only high performers from top IITs getting high salaried jobs. Recent reports mentioned that very few engineers have employability skills as well as only 20 percent engineers have employability skills and recent report mentioned that 90 percent Indian engineers can't code. Director at IIT-Guwahati stated that There is no doubt that this (debate over employability) is not applicable to IITs, NITs, some notable CFTIs such as the IIITs, IIEST, IIST, etc. Some leading state universities including Jadavpur University and Anna University colleges are imparting very high-quality education as are private institutes such as BITS, VIT, Amity and SRM, among others.
