Nokia hires more women: Report

Nokia is hiring more women for its core business functions such as R&D, service delivery, manufacturing, sales and marketing to promote gender diversity. A recent study expected that in 2015, around 20 percent of the total hires have been women. This percentage will be more in business functions such as Global Delivery Center (GDC) and research and development (R&D). The company is also designing strategies around safety at Work -Women Security, Grievance re-dressal and health & sports to ensure a vibrant work environment and employee well-being.

Nokia's Swedish rival Ericsson also mentioned that it would hire about 100 woman engineers in 2015-16 to increase the number of woman employees in India to 15%. Currently, women include tenth of Ericsson India's 2,100 workforce. Nokia has 15000 strong work-force, including externals, in India is spread across these units. It was considered as India is not only one of its strategic markets but also has almost all of Nokia's business operations represented in India manufacturing operations, global delivery centers, and research and development setups. Nokia's manufacturing wing in Chennai has over 1200 employees, R&D facility in Bangalore Technology Center has more than 4000 employees and global delivery centers in Noida and Chennai has over 3500 employees. R&D is gaining momentum in this era as the technology is emerging in the areas of IP, 3G, 4G, Cloud, Big Data and Internet of Things. The company is encouraging high performers who are committed to the culture of values & integrity and promotes diverse work culture and a more productive environment to reduce the attrition rate and encourage employees stay. Nokia designed a global voluntary employee share purchase plan which encourages employees to take to invest in the company and become Nokia shareholders, enabling them to experience the rewards through Nokia's business performance.
