Staying late at work is the new trend in corporate life. To reach the assigned targets, employees are pushing themselves to work beyond the office hours for a wide range of reasons. The most common reason behind staying late at work is that your efforts are been recognized and the chances of getting a promotion increases.
Recent survey by wisdom jobs career edge find that more than 1,600 employees across the8 industries were surveyed to find some interesting facts about staying late at work.
As per the survey, the average daily working hours of an individual would be more than 8.5 hours. Nearly 85% of employees stated that they stayed late at work more than twice a week.
Among them 49% surveyed professionals prefer staying late at work, meanwhile nearly half of the surveyed professionals said that they stay late at work only if they have any pending or due works.
The reasons for staying late may include competitive work environment and corporate work culture has made us workaholics. The surveyed professionals across 64% mentioned that their organization has a culture where people stay back late. Remaining 86% mentioned that their organization has no policy of compensating people who stay late at work.
While advanced technological advancements and disruptive traditional working models have caused employees work more by staying late at work. The other problem corporate are facing nowadays is retention and attracting talent.
Over 65% of surveyed professionals revealed that the word late as anything beyond ‘the number of hours actually spent by an employee at work’. Nearly 40% professionals mentioned that the managers are more concerned about staying late than status of work.
