You got a job interview call after the continuous efforts. But due to some unavoidable reasons, the situation demands you to ask for rescheduling the interview at the some other time or some other day. In that situation every job seeker thinks that is it fine if I ask the employer to postpone the interview?This thinking may provide you an opportunity to be considered for the future job openings with the employer.
Asking your hiring manager to postpone or even cancel the interview includes three basic steps-
(1) Giving a proper reason,
(2) Calling the recruiter or sending an e-mail
(3) Following up
You need to have a proper reason for rescheduling the interview if you do not want to miss your job opportunity. It is always better to present a reason on first day rather than waiting for the final day of the interview.
”I am not prepared because I forgot that the interview was scheduled for today.”
”I couldn’t sleep last night due to the interview stress, hence I am unwell to attend it today!”
”It have a conveyance facility today, so please can you reschedule for some other day.”
If the reason for delaying due to some personal problems likes sudden illness, family emergency or sick children at home inform the employer without much delay
If you know the reason then inform the employer, apologize for the missing date. If you have sufficient time then send an email for rescheduling a new appointment. Your email should be short and crisp.
Once the employer has agreed to reschedule the interview then do follow-up with a thank you note. Following the right approach and present that you are a professional who knows the value of interviewer’s time.
