Bring your own device (BYOD) to work is a new trend at work place. It enables an employee to access corporate information across devices and continue working. According to an IBM survey 82 percent of workers surveyed believe that smart phones will play a critical role in employee productivity in the years to come. It also helps organizations save cost. The burden of supplying, supporting and maintaining the devices is now shifted to the employees. According to Forbes, 49% users claim that they are more productive when they use their own devices. It ensures high productivity by reducing the time wastage. According to the recent survey by Wisdomjobs.com mentioned that more than half of the surveyed candidates.
More than 25 percent of firms have BYOD polices in place. As well as more than half of the respondents have transferred company files to their own devices. But only 48 percent respondents implement security updates when they realized. BYOP polices changes from company to company. Only 41 percent companies don't have BYOD policy and 39 percent companies following BYOD policy and remaining 20 percent companies are not sure about this. Over 39 percent respondents believe that they need to follow the organization security protocols when they work under the restrictions of a BYOD policy. It is common to transfer work files to personal devices when they are using own devices. But the risk behind this is increase the risk of data loss when employees are sending sensitive documents to their personal devices, or making copies and storing them across multiple devices. As well as, the survey mentioned that smart phones got high penetration across the verticals with Android as the dominant platform followed by BlackBerry and iOS (Apple). Tablet also got highest penetration across the telecom, media and entertainment, education and IT/ITeS verticals. The survey estimated business consulting services, telecom expense management solutions and mobile device management solutions will be the top three investment areas for enterprise mobility. However BYOD policies changes from one firm to another firm and employee owned devices must be password protected and those passwords must be strong. Otherwise security threats may happen, to avoid these companies must define specific resources to access apps on their own devices. Many organizations have created stipulated BYOD Policies to avoid security threats for the safe networking.
